If you think you have the Modern Skirts figured out, you need to listen to the Athens pop band's latest EP. One listen, and you'll likely re-evaluate what you thought you knew.
The EP, "Happy 81," isn't just meant to hold fans over until the full album drops this fall. It shows a new, broader direction the band is taking.
"The new EP is public exposure to Modern Skirts when we turn off our monitors," said the band's lead singer, Jay Gulley.
Gulley penned songs on the album that deal with everything from DUIs to dead girls looking for Georgia gentlemen. The words weave around electronic music that is experimental even by Modern Skirts' standards.
As experimental as they are, the six full tracks come out without a lot of polish. That's just what the Modern Skirts were going for.
